WEEKLY UPDATE--Do you know how to boil eggs?

For those of you who don't already know, eggs do not take a long time to boil. And for those who are sometimes forgetful , please remember that when you are cooking something in the kitchen, do not go to sleep at night before you turn the fire off.

If you saw the pictures you might have caught a glimpse of the blackened pot of burnt eggs. I don't have time to explain in vivid detail what exactly happened but on wednesday night my companion decided to boil some eggs . I had no idea she started cooking. We went to sleep at 10:30. I woke up around 12 to the sound of glass breaking, people pounding on our door, and repeatedly ringing our doorbell. It freaked me out. A lot. I woke up sister Reinhard. We called 119 (The number for the police and fire department) and told them that we thought someone was trying to break in. "You need to open the door and let us in!", they said. (They got a call from someone outside) We open our bedroom door and our living room, kitchen, everything was filled with smoke. Our carbon monoxide detector went off, we ran outside. Police, firemen, neighbors ran inside to put out the fire and get rid of the smoke. So after our landlord came to check out his place, after we called the AP's to come and make a record, after all heads and limbs were accounted for,  after all this excitement, the only thing that was damaged was a pot, 7 eggs and our neighbor's glass door. (The police thought the smoke was coming from our neighbor's house so they tried to break in.) It was 4:00am before we could fall back asleep again. So that is what happened. President thinks this story is hilarious. He suggested he give his missionaries a training on how to cook eggs.

As well as being saved from burning eggs, Heavenly Father allowed us to have huge winds one day. These winds were blowing around everything and their dog. Literally. A fluffy Pomeranian was not big enough and was blown by the wind and I saw it and ran to catch it! I returned him to his owner who then in turn said we could return to meet with him and his family.

We felt prompted to find in this specific park in our area. We got there and talked to a few people who were interested in listening. And then, I saw him. Wearing a blue and yellow HPD shirt (Hawaii Police Department) and pushing his baby girl around. His name was Benny Chen. We did not even have to introduce ourselves. He knew who we were, he asked us about our church and we taught him the restoration right there. He wanted his wife to hear our message to so we set up to meet with his family next week. Another miracle and another solid investigator! Oh, and he was wearing an HPD shirt because he lived in Hawaii for a while before moving back to Taiwan and his friend was in the force.

A lot of amazing things happened this week! and I can not wait to experience more this coming week! I hope you all remember not to forget your eggs on the stove! Love you!!!

Sister Reinhard's Foot

Every single companion goes to the doctor.
Sister Reinhard is stoked!
Doctor concluded there is a linear fracture at the base of her 5th metatarsal on her left foot.

WEEKLY UPDATE: Two typhoons = a really wet week.

Me and Sister Reinhard
When people see two young women walking outside in the middle of a huge rain storm, huge gusts of wind blowing up their umbrellas and making their tracts all wet, their hearts become soft and they let us into their houses :) Being a missionary is so much fun!

This week we found a bunch of new investigators, most of them in the strangest places. On one occurrence, we knocked on this one door, a lady opened it and let us in. We walked through her porch door and into her front door and all we see are her walls lined with bras and underwear. She runs a lingerie shop from out of her house. Her name is Lin Jie Mei. After about half an hour we shared the first lesson, invited her to baptism and set up to visit her again. The next time we go to visit her she offered to measure us up and make us something special. She's such a cool lady.

We had exchanges this week. I was able to head to Beitou with Sister Khou. We had a lesson with a Zhu Jie Mei. 40 (but looks like shes 23) single, works as a receptionist at a dentist office. The coolest thing about her is that not only is she so prepared to get baptized but she has TWO PARROTS, Nike and Gooby. ANNDDD they can speak English AND Chinese!

We took advantage of the moment when the sky cleared up and it stopped raining. Sister Reinhard
grabbed a guitar and we headed to the metro station to sing for people. While there we met a pair of missionaries from another church. One of them happened to be holding an ukulele. I taught the one who owns the ukulele how to play a song, we then sang for them. They were so surprised that we could speak chinese, they offered to pray for us. After their prayer they gave us their prayer book so that when we go home we could practice. Well, we then offered to pray for them. They were shocked that we didn't need a prayer book to say our prayers and they were pretty stunned at our Chinese. We invited them to English class so that they could practice their English. We gave them each a hug and left with a huge smile on our faces. They don't know it yet but these two ladies will get baptized.

We ended the week by visiting the hospital! Sister Reinhard's foot has been bothering her for about three weeks now so we went and got her foot x-rayed. The doctor concluded, there is a linear fracture at the base of her 5th metatarsal on her left foot. She will need to wear a brace for about a month before it is all healed up and what not. She is super stoked about it :D

That's about all for today! Mahalo for all the love and Aloha I feel everytime I read your letters! I hope everyone is doing well and those in school, I hope no one is skipping classes. Love you!!

WEEKLY UPDATE -- Moon cakes and gigantic grapefruit.....HAPPY MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL!!

God was wayyy too good to us this week. First off, my companion and I were able to get 8 investigators to sacrament meeting this week! WOOT! We had investigator lessons scheduled basically every hour of every day this week. We were able to visit with all of the members in our ward AND now we have a fridge full of bread, moon cakes and gigantic grapefruit!

This week, with the little finding time that we had, we decided to have fun with it. Since my companion and I cannot WAIT for Christmas, we decided to go caroling. We would knock on a door, ask if we could sing them a hymn, bear testimony of this gospel and ask them if we could come in and share a short message with them. There is something about music that makes people feel....for real though, music is a super power! We got 3 sick new investigators!

On Friday, our home phone just would not work. Our mission office gave us a new phone to see if that would fix the problem. Nope. Still not working. My companion used our cell phone to call the Mission office for a repair man. They said the repair man wouldn't be able to come until next week So I decided to check it out myself. (Dad, I think you'll be happy to hear this next part) With a pair of pliers and some electrical tape, a little bit of clipping and then some stripping, I was able to get our land line working again! :D

I think, the coolest thing that happened this week was that we were able to visit with the members of our ward. There are some really cool people in our ward! Recently our Mission President has been emphasizing the importance of member referrals. Now, the members here in Taiwan have often been asked by missionaries if they have any friends that would like to take the missionary lessons. So my companion and I decided to take a different approach. One thing about Taiwan, people do not know who their neighbors are. SO, when we go to visit members, we dont just sit down in the comfort of their living room and talk about how great this Gospel is BUT we ask them if we can meet them outside of their house and, with them, go together and knock on some of their neighbors doors. This has been the best way we have been able to help the members get excited about missionary work. We went with one member family (The Lin Family) and we knocked on their upstairs neighbor door, little unbeknownst to us all, their upstairs neighbor is actually a Less Active in our ward who had not gone to church in over 20 years because she did not feel like she knew anybody. Guys, get to know your neighbors.

Well, that's all for this week. Thanks fam for all the words of encouragement! It's been almost 9 months! Crazy stuff!! :)
 Love you guys!!!
